James Brandon Lewis - Saxophon

James Brandon Lewis steht in der Tradition von Saxophonisten wie Sonny Rollins, Albert Ayler oder John Coltrane. Vom 95-jährige Rollins bekam James Brandon Lewis das grosse Lob: „Wenn ich dir zuhöre, höre ich Buddha, höre ich Konfuzius … ich höre den tieferen Sinn des Lebens. Du hältst die Welt im Gleichgewicht.“
James Brandon Lewis, der Sohn einer Mathematikerin und eines Pfarrers aus Buffalo NY, verbrachte die letzten Jahre auf einer intensiven akademischen, spirituellen und musikalischen Suche. Er entwickelte einen dringlichen Tenorsaxophon-Sound sowie eine lyrische Qualität, die sich sowohl in den Solos als auch in seinen Kompositionen entfaltet – am wirkungsvollsten mit seinem Jazzquartett.
Im LOFT spielt James Brandon Lewis eines seiner seltenen Solo-Konzerte.

Kaja Draksler, Petter Eldh und Christian Lillinger zählen zu den innovativen und tiefgründigen Musiker*innen, die im letzten Jahrzehnt in Erscheinung getreten sind. James Brandon Lewis follows in the tradition of saxophonists such as Sonny Rollins, Albert Ayler and John Coltrane. James Brandon Lewis received high praise from 95-year-old Rollins: "When I listen to you, I hear Buddha, I hear Confucius ... I hear the deeper meaning of life. You keep the world in balance."
James Brandon Lewis, the son of a mathematician and a minister from Buffalo NY, has spent the last several years on an intense academic, spiritual and musical quest. He developed an urgent tenor saxophone sound as well as a lyrical quality that unfolds in both the solos and his compositions - most effectively with his jazz quartet.
James Brandon Lewis plays one of his rare solo concerts at the LOFT.

Kaja Draksler, Petter Eldh and Christian Lillinger are among the most innovative and profound musicians to have emerged in the last decade. The trio has received the highest praise from the music press: “Tonal/atonal patterns, figures and rhythms are interwoven here. This is highly dynamic and highly virtuosic”, wrote Hans-Jürgen Schaal in Jazzthetik, and he concludes: ‘Currently one of the most important bands in the world’. And Michael Rüsenberg in Jazz City: “Experiencing what is probably the most expressive jazz piano trio in Europe at the moment (and possibly beyond) is a shaking experience”.



This evening will beginn with a the award ceremony at 7.00 pm CEST - the LOFT will open approx 30min before the talk starts.
