Synopsis
As a big thank you to our loyal and faithful audience, we have created a new social media and online format over the past few weeks to serve you with small CULTURE BITES in the meantime. Some well-known actors who have performed with us in recent years, as well as a line-up of actors new to our theatre, who we have invited to take part, will present a short monologue to you every Sunday. In this episode we present Ethan Freeman.Freeman studied at Yale University and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
Freeman, whose musical background is actually in opera, has been working in Europe since 1981. Important roles in his career include those he co-created as Luigi Lucheni (Elisabeth, Vienna 1992, directed by Harry Kupfer), as well as Kurt Korn (Finix, Vienna 2003) and the Sheriff of Nottingham (Robin Hood - Für Liebe und Gerechtigkeit, Bremen 2005). He also portrayed the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera several times (Vienna 1988, London 1994, Toronto 1997 and Essen 2006) and enjoyed great success in the demanding double role of Jekyll & Hyde (Bremen 1999). For his performance in this production he was voted best actor in a leading role of 1999 by the readers of the magazine Musicals.
In addition to his performances in musicals, Freeman sings as a soloist in concerts and television shows. He has performed in ten countries, including New York's Carnegie Hall and London's Night of the Proms. Freeman has sung various programmes on gala tours of Europe and regularly sings at the Summer Night of the Musical in Dinslaken. In May 2007 his first solo programme Is this home had its premiere in Oberhausen.
