Director's comment
We wanted to explore how the past can determine ourselves, even when we are not able to remember what happened yesterday. Alzheimer's disease erases the present, but often our life's milestones remain alive in our minds.This is an exploration of how the past co-exists with the present until creating a new reality, making from the observation of the quotidian a different portrait of mental illness, with lucidity, humour and joy, on every memory we cherish.
Biography
GIEDRĖ ŽICKYTĖBorn in 1980, Giedrė Žickytė is a Lithuanian film director and producer. She graduated with an MA in Visual Arts from the Vilnius Art Academy in 2007 and has been working in the international documentary film market since 2010. Her films have been screened at many international film festivals including IDFA, DokLeipzig, Vision du Reel, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Rotterdam IFF, Goteborg IFF, Warsaw IFF, Krakow IFF, Hot Docs and others, have received various awards and been distributed theatrically. Her latest documentary film MASTER AND TATYANA (2015) won four main Lithuanian National Film Awards “Silver Crane” - for the Best Director, Best Documentary, Best Camera and Best Editing.
At the moment Giedre is in production of the feature-length documentary THE JUMP.
MAITE ALBERDI
Maite Alberdi is a Chilean director and producer. She studied Film and Aesthetics at the Universidad Católica de Chile. As a director she has developed a highly particular style that achieves an intimate portrayal of the characters she works with through everyday stories in small-scale worlds. In 2011 she premiered at IDFA her first feature film THE LIFEGUARD. Her film TEA TIME also premiered at IDFA (2014), was broadcast during POV (point of view) season 2015 and received various awards, among them Best Female-Directed Documentary at IDFA and Best Documentary at the festivals in Miami, Barcelona, Cartagena, Guadalajara, and Santiago. She is currently working on her third documentary, THE GROWN-UPS, about a group of adults with Down Syndrome who have grown tired of attending the same school for 45 years. She works as a teacher at several universities in Santiago, and is co-writer of the book “Teorías del cine documental en Chile: 1957‐1973”.
