The Orphanage

Synopsis

Laura returns with her family to the long abandoned orphanage where she grew up to re-open it as a home for disabled children. The new home and mysterious surroundings awaken Simon's imagination and the boy starts to spin a web of fantastic tales and not-so-innocent games... A troubling web that begins to disturb Laura, who slowly becomes convinced that something long-hidden and terrible is hiding in the old house, something waiting to emerge and inflict appalling damage on her family.

Director's comment

It is a great joy for me to be nominated for the EFA's. All the team of THE ORPHANAGE is very proud to see how this small film has grown thanks to the audience's support. The world-wide success of a European genre movie like THE ORPHANAGE shows us that we can make quality cinema here that is at the same time competitive with the American industry. We are very grateful for this nomination as it gives us more strength to confront our next project.
