When the Austrian performer Eva Jantschitsch, a.k.a. GUSTAV released her debut album ‚Rettet die Wale’ (‚Save the Whales’) in 2004, she received rave reviews from critics, fans and music enthusiasts alike: not only had GUSTAV breathed new life into the protest song, but, with her musical blend of melancholic and tender multi-lingual pop melodies, live instruments and avant garde laptop electronic beats, she had also discovered an infectious music style with subversive content.
