Schubert’s »Winterreise« (A Winter’s Journey) tells the story of a wanderer ...
Schubert’s »Winterreise« (A Winter’s Journey) tells the story of a wanderer between worlds; it’s a tale of farewell, of loneliness and of always feeling like a stranger. What can Schubert’s lieder tell us today, in a time of mass migration? How have the sentiments documented in Schubert’s music changed in the 21st century? What does alienation sound like today? Songs from the composer’s cycles »Die schöne Müllerin«, »Winterreise« and »Schwanengesang« and other Schubert lieder are interwoven in this performance, and the scenery conjures up topical societal associations.
