Where other composers seek distance from traditions, Lang works right in their wake, often employing the element of repetition as he does so. His »Cold Trip« is a part of a larger series of »Monadologies«, in which he reworks and overwrites pieces from distant and more recent musical history. Fragments of the original works repeatedly emerge in repetitive loops and memories.
The participants on the »Cold Trip« are all experts: Juliet Fraser feels at home with old and very new music in equal measure; Mark Knoop on the piano and laptop is a fearless interpreter; while Sarah Maria Sun teaches masterclasses on twentieth and twenty-first century vocal music from Harvard to Berlin. Finally, the Aleph Guitar Quartet, with its unusual line-up offers a fruitful space for new ideas.
