Sie studierte Theaterwissenschaft und Germanistik in München und schloss ihre Promotion im Jahr 1979 ab. Von 1980 bis 1990 war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Theaterwissenschaft an der Universität in München, 1994 Professorin am Institut für Theaterwissenschaft in Leipzig, wo sie auch habilitierte. Im Anschluss erhielt sie eine Professur für Tanzwissenschaft an der Hochschule für Musik in Köln und war Gastprofessorin an europäischen und amerikanischen Universitäten. Claudia Jeschke arbeitet zudem als Dramaturgin, Choreographin, Ausstellungsmacherin und Autorin von Fernsehsendungen zum Tanz. Sie ist Autorin zahlreicher wissenschaftlicher Publikationen, in denen sie als ausgebildete Tänzerin die Tanzgeschichte vor allem unter bewegungsanalytischen und praxisorientierten Gesichtspunkten beleuchtet. Die Verbindung von Historie, Theorie und Praxis dokumentiert sich außerdem in zahlreichen Re-Konstruktionen zu Tanzphänomenen des 18., 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts.

has been holding the chair of dance studies at the University of Salzburg and is visiting professor at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich since 2004. She studied theatre studies and German literature in Munich and did her doctorate in 1979. From 1980 to 1990 she was research assistant at the institute of theatre studies of the University of Munich, in 1994 professor at the institute of theatre studies in Leipzig, where she was also promoted to professor. She then held a professorship for dance studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and was a visiting professor at European and American universities. Claudia Jeschke also works as a dramaturge, choreographer, exhibition organiser, and author of TV programs dedicated to dance. She is the author of numerous academic publications in which she, as a trained dancer, sheds light on the history of dance, predominantly under the aspects of movement analysis and practice orientation. The connection she establishes between history, theory and practice is also documented in a number of reconstructions of dance phenomena of the 18th, 19th and 20th century.
