In the history of (Western) modernity, the art of dance has repeatedly been mythologized as the “other” and discriminated – in comparison with other forms of art. Contemporary dance of the past 20 years therefore addresses the political and social value of dance and raises questions as to the articulation of the political in the process or aesthetic of dance. The lecture predominantly seeks to put the utopian potential of dance up for discussion from the perspective of postcolonial critique.
